North of Normal is a live radio show and podcast hosted by Amanda McKeen on North Country Community Radio in Littleton, New Hampshire. The show features honest, human-centered conversations with people connected to life in the North Country.

Guests are typically recommended to Amanda by past guests, listeners, friends or other members of the community, and she spends time getting to know someone before inviting them onto the show.There is no application or self-nomination process. The show airs live Tuesdays from 10am–11am on WZNC-LP 99.9 FM and streams online through North Country Community Radio. Episodes are also published afterward as a podcast.

Not exactly. While many guests are business owners, the show is not focused on marketing, promotion, or entrepreneurship advice. The conversations are about people first — their stories, experiences, challenges, perspectives, and connection to community.

Guests come from many walks of life: business owners, artists, nonprofit leaders, volunteers, creatives, tradespeople, educators, community builders, and longtime locals. The common thread is not status or expertise. It’s humanity.

The show is designed to create space for thoughtful human conversation, not political debate or campaigning.

The show is not intended to function as advertising or promotion. Sometimes projects, organizations, or life work naturally come up in conversation, but the focus stays on the person and the story behind what they do.

The name reflects both place and perspective — life in the North Country often moves differently, asks different things of people, and creates stories that don’t always fit neatly into the rest of the world’s expectations.

The conversations are intentionally unscripted, slower paced, and grounded in curiosity instead of performance. The goal is not to “interview” people in the traditional sense, but to create space where real connection and understanding can happen.
